Choosing an Experienced Invisalign Provider: Why It Matters

By the time most people are seriously looking into Invisalign NZ, they’ve already done the research. They know how the aligners work, they’ve seen the before-and-afters, and they’ve got a rough sense of the cost. What they’re still working out is who to go to, and what actually separates a highly experienced provider from one who offers Invisalign as an add-on to a general practice.

That’s a fair thing to think carefully about since you’re looking at a commitment of $4,000 to $10,000 and anywhere from a few months to well over a year of treatment. Here’s how we help patients think through that decision at our Invisalign Auckland and Invisalign Hamilton clinics.

How to Tell Which Invisalign Dentists Are the Most Experienced

Invisalign measures providers by annual case volume, and recognises the highest-volume clinicians with provider levels running up to Diamond. These levels are independently verified but rarely explained to patients — and, as of recently, no longer shown directly on Invisalign’s public provider finder in New Zealand.

Tier Case volume
Bronze Entry level
Silver Moderate volume
Gold High volume
Platinum Very high volume
Diamond 150+ cases per year

Maintaining Diamond status requires completing more than 150 cases every year.

At that volume, a clinician builds genuine pattern recognition: which tooth movements are stubborn, which cases carry complexity beneath the surface, and where a plan needs refinements factored in before treatment begins.

We’ve held consecutive Diamond Provider status every year from 2017 to 2025, across more than 2,000 patients in New Zealand and the UK.

Diamond-tier clinicians also access better pricing from the aligner manufacturer, and we pass those savings directly to our patients. An all-inclusive specialist fee is often more competitive than it looks, particularly compared to a lower quote that hasn’t yet added retainers, refinements or scans.

Why doesn’t Invisalign’s provider finder show status levels anymore?

Invisalign recently changed how its provider finder works in New Zealand. Instead of displaying a Bronze-to-Diamond badge against each clinic, it now lists providers in order of how many Invisalign cases they completed in the previous calendar year — the clinics doing the most cases appear at the top.

The case numbers themselves aren’t shown publicly; they run in the background to set the order. In practice, it’s a more honest signal than a static badge, because a clinic’s position reflects recent, real workload rather than a label it earned once. As one of the highest-volume Invisalign providers in the regions we cover, we sit at the top of that list.

Five Questions to Ask Any Invisalign Dentist Before You Book

A working checklist for comparing providers:

1. How many Invisalign cases do you complete per year?

Case volume is the clearest indicator of hands-on clinical depth. Ask directly.

2. What is your provider tier?

Diamond accreditation is independently verified. Look for the accreditation badges on a provider’s website, or ask at your initial consultation.

3. What does the quoted fee include?

Clinics bundle things differently. Our pricing covers everything upfront: the initial iTero digital scan, x-rays, all aligner sets, refinement aligners, three sets of Vivera Retainers (30% stronger than standard retainer brands), and a home whitening kit at completion. No additional charges as you go.

4. How is progress tracked between visits?

For Moderate and Complex cases, we use Dental Monitoring, a programme that lets patients scan their teeth weekly via smartphone. We review those scans remotely, keeping treatment on track with fewer in-clinic visits. More details on our treatment process page.

5. Can you take on my specific case?

Clinicians at lower case volumes sometimes refer out or decline cases outside their usual range. With over 15 years focused exclusively on providing Invisalign in NZ, from straightforward to complex presentations, we give every patient a clear, evidence-based read on what’s achievable in their situation.

On Suitability

A question we hear regularly at first consultations: “I was told my case might be too complicated for aligners.”

Sometimes this comes from a general dentist, and other times from conflicting information online.

Clinical depth built across thousands of cases opens up a wider range of treatable presentations, and we’re direct about what each one involves. Read what our patients have to say about their results, from the first appointment through to the final outcome.
